told him. He smiled and held her hand over the center console.

  “It only gets better,” he promised. Kayla couldn’t see how that was possible, but she knew if he said it, he meant it.

  They spent the rest of the trip talking. They were both excited for the hike, even Kayla, who still didn’t admit to him that she didn’t like hiking. When they arrived, she was surprised there weren’t more people around. In fact, they were the only ones in the area.

  “Did I mention that I own this property?” He asked when she questioned the lack of people. “On the weekends, I like to be out here alone. Well, usually alone,” he amended. They each grabbed their backpacks and began the hike. It wasn’t all up-hill and Kayla breathed a sigh of relief.

  She was surprised when they passed a doe and her fawn. She was more shocked when James pulled out an expensive camera from his bag and snapped a few shots. He had only a short lens and when he moved in closer for a better picture, Kayla stayed put. She watched him and could tell that photography was a passion of his. She vaguely remembered seeing some amazing photos in the reception area of his office. She was certain they were his. When he finally came back to the path, he slipped the camera strap around his neck and pulled her along the path.

  “Never know what we’ll see up here,” he said. Kayla found herself enjoying the hike. James stopped every few minutes for a photo op, sometimes making her the center of his portrait. She was excited to be included in his photography. When they reached the top of the falls, Kayla was speechless.

  “I don’t get to come out here as often as I’d like,” he told her. “But when I do, I really appreciate my surroundings. This heat is unbearable. Let’s go swim.”

  He helped her down the steep path that ran next to the falls and the clear water pool at the bottom. The falls were thunderous and Kayla found that the sound blocked out all other sounds, except James’ voice. He guided her down the path and she was grateful to be spending this time with him.

  They set their packs down and before she had time to do anything else but take off her shoes, she was thrown into the pool. Just as she surfaced, sputtering, James dove in beside her, fully clothed. She laughed and went after him when his head popped out of the water behind her, closer to the falls. He nodded his head at her so that she would follow him and went beneath the falls.

  Behind the curtain of the falls, there was a jutting rock that was nearly completely dry. James was already standing on it and he gave his hand to Kayla to pull her up. As she looked behind them, she saw a cave.

  “It’s pretty deep,” he told her. “I haven’t been all the way through, but it’s something I’d like to do one day. Still, the acoustics from the cave make this an awesome place to just sit and listen,” he said, sitting on the rock. He pulled her down with him and they sat in silence, just listening to the falls.

  “It’s beautiful, James. Thank you for bringing me.”

  “Well, I suppose if we’re going to go on with this, you should call me Jamie. It’s my family’s nickname for me and they will believe our story a bit more if that’s what you call me, too,” he said.

  “Jamie,” she tested his nickname. “I like it. It really suits you.” He couldn’t figure out why he liked her saying his nickname so much, but he demanded she say it again.

  “Jamie,” she breathed. He was on her as she finished saying his name. His hands went into her wet hair and pulled her in for a deep kiss.

  He didn’t have to probe her lips; she was already opening to him. He laid her back gently on the smooth stone and covered her body with his. Her hands were pulling his shirt up, and he yanked it off. She moved her fingers over his thickly muscled chest. He knew they were passing a line, but he couldn’t stop. He wanted to be as close to her possible. He forced her to sit up and gently pulled her wet tank top off. He groaned heartily as soon as he saw her bathing suit top. A hot pink halter barely contained her full breasts and he moved his hands to them. At her moan, he brought his lips back to hers and rubbed himself against her.

  The water had cooled off his desire for her, but she was quickly reigniting his passion. She scraped her long nails against his back when his thigh pushed between her legs and rocked against her. He kissed her throat, her shoulder. When he slowly untied the halter from behind her neck, he took his time revealing her fine figure to himself. He told himself he was going slowly for her sake, but he knew he was only drawing out his own anticipation and pleasure of seeing her naked.

  “Let me,” he pleaded, looking into her eyes. She couldn’t deny him, she knew. His fingers grazed her gently and she jumped. “Easy,” he murmured, brushing against her again. When his other hand moved to her and opened her sweet delicacy to him, she fell back against the hard rock and enjoyed his ministrations. He rubbed her swollen clit with his finger for a second before pushing his finger into her. Kayla arched into his hands, bringing herself closer to him.   “Wow,” was all she said. She pulled his shoulders toward her and kissed him, tasting herself on his lips. She already wanted more but she knew they couldn’t sleep together. She decided to reciprocate his generosity. She undid the button on his khaki shorts.

  “Kayla, we can’t,” he groaned. “I didn’t bring a condom.” His voice was pained, like the very thought of not having her was killing him. Kayla smiled. She pulled his shorts and boxers down, with his help and he barely heard her words.

  “Who said anything about a condom?” She grinned and put her mouth to him. She licked his member only once before she fully embedded him into her mouth. Jamie watched her intently, groaning at her skill and trying not to thrust his hips at her face.

  He didn’t last long, and when he came, she never let him out of her mouth. Jamie was surprised but that didn’t stop him. When he finished, she came to lie beside him, her head of his shoulder.

  “That was amazing,” he told her.

  “I know,” she said. She grinned when he lifted his head to look at her. “I can’t help it; I could tell you liked it.”

  “Yeah, I know. Let’s just let it go where it goes. You’ve got me, at least until next Sunday,” she promised.

  Jamie didn’t say anything, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to let her go after his family reunion. He didn’t understand his possessive attitude toward her, but he did know that he wanted more than just another week with her.

  “Oh yeah, one more thing…” Kayla said. He went stiff against her. She made a face and told him the truth. “I hate hiking,” she felt his whole body rumble just a second before he let out a hearty laugh. She giggled and smiled against him. She knew she was going to thoroughly enjoy the week ahead.
